If you are managing server and running multiple websites on server then sure you need to tweak and optimize php setting in php.ini file that works for you. for example, you need to increase max file upload size if you are running a video streaming website or increase memory_limit value due to memory allocation failure in php script. WHM does not allow you to change these values through WHM/Cpanel web interface. All you have to recompile apache with php in order to make critical change in php.ini.

Your first step is to check location of php .ini file. You can do this by running phpinfo function in a temp .php file. Create a file called “info.php” with below content. Upload file on webserver using ftp software and run on server to see server configuration. Find “Loaded Configuration File” in the web page to check exact location of php.ini file. Usually, path of the php.ini file is “/usr/local/lib/php.ini” but if it is different in phpinfo then use that file.

Use PuTTy SSH client to login into server. Now it is the time to make change in php.ini file. You can do it in many ways. If you are familiar with Linux command line then use vi editor or nano editor. Nano editor is much more comfortable then traditional vi editor. Also, nano shows all useful commands in bottom bar that help user to works easily with nano editor.

Another, simple way is to use WinSCP client. WinSCP is a free windows SSH client that allow you to use shell commands or use convenient user friendly ftp like interface. Browse php.ini file using the WinSCP graphical interface, download the file, make the changes and upload again to the server.

Restart apache in order to see the changes.

I am happy with default mouse pointer size on my DELL windows 7. However changing mouse pointer size may be useful for people who have eye sight problem. I am writing this post because today my close friend asked me how to increase mouse pointer size in windows 7.

Click on Start -> Control Panel

You may have noticed this error when you try to execute some commands are install new software on windows 7 or windows vista . You get this screen for the program require to run as administrator but you are actually in the normal user mode. This is spacial feature called User Account Control (UAC) that check whether this program has appropriate permission run. If program require to run as administrator user and you are not login as administrator then you may receive this error.

There are two way to  fix this issue.

1) This is quick  way to turn off this nag message. Simply run command or program as administrator to fix this issue.

Go to Windows 7 Start button –> All Programs –>Accessories

Now right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

2) You can disable User Account Control (UAC) feature if you really don’t like it. We recommend to keep this feature on for security reason.

Click on Start button -> Control Panel . Then click on User Accounts and Family Safety option.

Click on User Account

Click on User Account Control Setting

Move slider down at end till last point from middle position to disable this feature.

Did you even noticed sometime few website work on PC and some others not. Restarting your PC may solve this issue and all website open as usual. This problem may come due to invalid DNS cache and can be easily solve if you flush your system cache. I am showing you exactly how you can flush dns cache yourself in windows 7. The steps should be same for Windows Vista.

Click on Windows7 start button and click on All Programs

Click on Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. You may receive following warning Do you want to allow following program to make changes to your computer. Click on Yes button to open command prompt window.

Type command ipconfig /flushdns in the command prompt window and hit enter. You will receive confirmation message as shown below in the picture.
