Microsoft IIS is the Web Server used to develop and deploy web application based on Microsoft Technologies like ASP.net and Classic ASP. If you are developer working on Microsoft Technologies you might need to install Microsoft IIS at some point. Please note all Windows 7 version not included Microsoft Soft IIS. Please click here to make sure Microsoft IIS is a part of your Windows  7 distribution.

Follow steps below for installation. You may need Windows 7 DVD between installation so keep it handy.

Click on Start -> Control Panel

Click on View by drop down link in the top-right corner and select Small Icons. The items list now changed to uncategorized list.

Click on Programs and Features

Now click on Turn Windows features on or off to get windows feature dialog box

Select required component from Windows  Features dialog box. Click on + to expand and view sub-features list.

Now windows installing Microsoft Windows for you. You will get “Please wait while Windows makes changes to features. This may take several minutes.” Just wait while windows completing installation.

Now type http://localhost/ in your favorite browser. You shoud see default IIS7 page.

Currently, i have no issue with my Dell Inspiron 1525 and it’s working  like a charm with Windows 7. However, some of the issue i had experienced before that i would like to share with readers.

Suddenly System Shutdown with Blue Screen

There are several reason that can cause your system to die suddenly with blue screen or without blue screen withing a second.  This issue is very wide and finding out why it is happening is extremely tough task. Here are some of the reason that can cause your pc to die suddenly.

1. RAM (Random Access Memory) failure
2. Hardware failure
3. Improper hardware driver installation
4. Software issue
5. Overheating  Processor

I called Dell toll free number for the assistance.  Dell representative asked  me to run diagnostic utility to check any possible hardware error and re-call them with error number and description if any.  I run diagnostic utility and there was no error found by utility. Dell utility took about an hour to check all hardware. Maximum time was taken by RAM check. Again, i called Dell with the utility result and they asked me check BIOS Version number.  The BIOS version i had was A13 that was outdated. The representative instructed me over phone how to download and update latest BIOS version A16.  After the BIOS upgrade i never experienced this issue again. The representative told me to check system for a week and also told me they will call me week after a week to check how system is working . As they promised, they called me after a week to check weather issue resolved or not.

RAM Upgrade

As warranty upgrade, i also called Dell customer care for RAM memory upgrade from 2GB to 4GB. The customer care representative said they don’t have compatible RAM(DDR II) for your laptop (Inspiron 1525). I argued representative about this because there was only 6 month left i bought laptop and it was within warranty. Same RAM version still available in the market without Dell but i could not upgrade from others becuase it  could void my laptop warranty.

Extended Warranty

I asked about warranty upgrade from Dell customer care and they said i need to pay around 7K for one year warranty upgrade which is costly in comparison to other manufacturers. So, i finally decided not to go with warranty upgrade.

You may find lower image resolution in the Opera 10 or newer version. First time i thought its just image loading issue and will fix over time but this was not the case. Opera introduced new feature that increase browsing speed significantly and gives you faster browsing experience. This technology called “Opera Turbo” by Opera Community. Opera proxy server do not handle secure connection. SSL connection completely bypass to protect user privacy.

How to Fix

Follow steps below to turn off opera turbo mode

• Click on bottom left turbo icon and select Configure Opera Turbo
• Select Turn off turbo and click on to implement change.
  
• Now refresh page. Image should load properly after disabling turbo mode. You can also choose automatic mode that allow opera to determine where to on/off turbo mode depend on network.

It is very difficult to open .docx files for the user who are using older version of Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office introduced new .docx file format in the ms office 2007. Users who are using ms office 2003 or older version can not open .docx document.

3) Download and Use OpenOffice to open .docx file. You can also use OpenOffice for all you Microsoft office need. OpenOffice is now widely used as Microsoft office replacement and commonly used office suite in Linux environment.  This package available in many languages and available for almost all platform including Mac OSX and Linux. Download OpenOffice installer from here. You can also download and use open office portable version without installing OpenOffice whenever you need.

At some point you may wish to delete recent played items from windows media player history.  Deleting history is very easy in the media player and you can do it quickly within a minute. Just follow  the instructions below.

Go to Tools -> Options

Windows Media Player option box will open. (see below in figure).  Now click on Clear History and Clear CD/DVD button to clear all history data.

Well, i never think to do this before. 90% windows users use My Document folder to store daily data. Changing my document path to another drive might help when you PC got crashed accidently due to male-ware or some other reason.

Here is quick tip that help you out change Desktop and My Document default folder path to any drive folder.

My Document Path Change

Changing My Document default path is very easy.  Go to My Document folder and right click and then select properties to open properties dialog box. Change Default path in Target text field. After changing path system will ask you to move files from current folder to new folder. Select yes/no based on your choice. you may want use fresh folder and keep previous folder files where they are.

Change Special Desktop Folder Default Path

Changing desktop path is quiet cumbersome for non tech savvy person. you may find it little difficult to get it done in comparison to My Document folder path change. but don’t worry, i am providing you screenshot to get it done properly.

Go to Start -> Run
Type regedit in open box and hit ok

Go to File -> Export and save registry backup to a safe location. This is if something goes wrong so that you can restore registry from backup.

Navigate to below registry path:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

You will notice several special folder values in right side panel as indicated in the screenshot. Double click on the Desktop and Personal entries and change default path to folder in any drive that you may wish to point to. You may also change other system special folder path from here.

You can separate tab from chrone in independent windows. Just drag-n-drop tab outside the tab area. Similarly, you can again put tab from another window to another window just by drag-n-drop. see image for more details.
